Journey

A slightly non-linear path that somehow makes sense.

I started as a developer, moved into design because the interesting problems kept being about people, went back to university to study that properly, and have been designing (and occasionally building) products since. Select any stop for the detail.

  1. I work on Flyway, Redgate’s database DevOps product. Research, interaction design and a fair amount of getting hands-on with the product — including AI and MCP work.

    • Led the research and design behind the Flyway MCP server, shipped in v13.0.0.
    • Ran hands-on technical friction research on the MCP server — installing, configuring and stress-testing it across platforms — and surfaced packaging, configuration-merge and OS security issues directly to engineering.
    • Opened pull requests into the product codebase and built a reusable Claude skill that lets non-technical designers create PRs independently.
    • Co-built “Blast Radius” during Innovation Week: an AI-powered migration risk-scoring engine.
    • Designed Flyway Desktop’s Code Review UI — violations panel, rule configuration, severity system.
    • Extended the Figma pattern library to cover the Flyway CLI.
    • Led enterprise customer research (payments, fintech, energy) that set Flyway’s AI roadmap.
